Chapter 12
Jamie
Dan was a character. Where Tyler could be fairly reserved at times, Dan was outspoken. After a day spent wandering Nashville with the two of them, I thought I had a somewhat good grasp on their dynamic. Dan was there to bring Tyler out of his shell. He needled and teased, and he wasn’t afraid to make an ass of himself to draw a laugh.
He wasn’t all fun and games, though.
I’d sent Tyler to the bathroom to wash his face so we could film the makeup video, leaving me alone with Dan. He didn’t waste the opportunity.
“I know Tyler looks all big and tough, and honestly kind of like a douche frat guy, but he’s not. And he really likes you. He doesn’t do things for fun.”
I paused in my unloading of the Sephora bag. “I know that. And he has too many tattoos to be a frat guy.”
“That’s not the point.”
I met Dan’s brown gaze. “The point is you’re giving me the don’t-hurt-him speech, right? I get it. But he’s a big boy, and what we do is between us. I’m not in this to hurt him, and that’s all you need to know.” I didn’t know what I was in this for, but I had a sneaking suspicion it was for the long haul.
We had a bit of a stare-off before Dan conceded, looking away. “I like what I’ve got to see of you so far, but you’ve got a reputation. I know some of it’s probably exaggerated, but it had to have come from something. I can’t help but be worried about him. He’s my best friend, and you… you’re trouble, to be frank.”
Everything Dan said was true. He had a valid reason to be concerned. I’d started this whole thing with nothing more than the thought that it would be cool if I got to sleep with Tyler once. I’d gone into this on nothing more than the belief that Tyler was smoking hot, and while I’d believed he had a good personality before I’d met him, if it had been bad, I’d still have wanted to fuck him.
And yet here I stood, getting the talk from Tyler’s best friend and spending the weekend doing coupley shit. Hell, I was about to film a video in which I basically let the whole world know Tyler was my boyfriend. I’d gone from zero to sixty with him, and I didn’t have a clue what I was doing.
I probably would hurt him in the end.
Was it selfish that I didn’t care? I wanted to keep doing whatever this was anyway.
“My reputation has been earned, and I’m not saying I’ve changed. I’m not even saying I want to change. It’s too early. But Tyler knows what he’s getting into, and I let him set the boundaries. Now, I don’t want there to be an issue between us.” I gestured from Dan to myself. “Tyler obviously loves you. So are we cool?”
For a second, I thought Dan was going to tell me no, we weren’t, but he nodded slowly.
